SUMMARY:Motovun Film Festival
DESCRIPTION:The Motovun Film Festival is an annual film festival established in 1999 and held in the small town of Motovun. It usually takes place over five or six days in late July or early August. \nMotovun Film Festival is entirely dedicated to films made in small studios and independent film productions. Founded by film director Rajko Grlić and producer Boris T. Matić\, it was first organized in the late 1990s to fill the gap in cinema repertoire as there were almost none non-Hollywood films in wide distribution in Croatia at the time. The festival program every year consists of around 70 titles from all over the world\, from documentaries to feature films\, short and feature-length films\, from guerrilla-made films to co-productions. \nOver time the festival become widely popular among Croatian youths\, as well as foreign backpackers. Every year during the festival\, a camp for visitors is organized on the foothills of Motovun\, where anybody can put up a tent. The festivalgoers’ camp has become one of the hallmarks of the festival. In January 2007 British newspaper The Guardian described the festival as “a cross between Glastonbury and Sundance.”[1] It is often referred to as “a Woodstock of film festivals”. \nThe festival also grew in status on the festival circuit. From an event that was once considered a “backpacker’s film festival\,” by 2007 it was recognized as one of the two most important film festivals held on the territory of the former Yugoslavia\, along with the Sarajevo Film Festival. \n  \nEXACT DATES FOR 2023 TO BE RELEASED

Blato Summer programme:\nhttps://blatski-fizuli.hr/blato/31-blatsko-ljeto \nBlato Summer Festival (16/7 till 15/8) is a traditional program with rich and diverse cultural and entertainment events with a focus on preserving cultural heritage. The regular parts of the program are classical music nights. In previous years\, the visitors enjoyed the performances by the principal opera soloists and soloists of the Croatian National Theatre and other renowned artists. During Blato Summer Festival you may visit exhibitions of local and foreign artists. The pop and rock concerts by popular Croatian artists are held on the square in front of the parish church. During the Blato Summer\, visitors can learn about the Blato folklore heritage at the performances of V.U. Kumpanija (Knight’s Society Kumpanija). The society performs ancient dances in traditional and picturesque costumes. Very interesting is the scene reconstruction of the battle of Giča held in the year 1571. During the summer Blato organizes the Festival of klap’s of the Dubrovnik-Neretva County\, Mediterranean Movie Nights and Summer Carnival.

DESCRIPTION:The sword dance Moreška has been passed for centuries from generation to generation and has become an inevitable part of cultural and tourist entertainment of the town of Korčula in the summer period. \nAlong with Moreška on the List of Protected Cultural Items of the Republic of Croatia\, there is the Kumpanija chain battle dance with swords\, which is performed in Pupnat\, Čara\, Smokvica\, Blato and Vela Luka\, together with Moštra in Žrnovo\, on the island of Korcula. The oldest record of Moreška dates to 1666 and the Kumpanija Law of Žrnovo dates to 1620.
