Travelers Need to Know

U.S. DOMESTIC TRAVEL:

Beginning May 7, 2025, every traveler 18 years of age or older will need a REAL-ID-compliant driver’s license or identification card, or another TSA-acceptable form of identification at airport security checkpoints for domestic air travel.

For more information on REAL ID, visit www.dhs.gov/real-id

UNITED KINGDOM:

ETA (Electronic Travel Authorization): Starting January 8, 2025, you must have an ETA to travel to the UK. This includes the USA.

EUROPEAN TRAVEL:

New EU Border Entry/Exit System (ESS): Since October 12, 2025, the European Union (EU) has been gradually introducing this new digital entry and exit system for non-EU citizens. The electronic travel authorization ETIAS will follow in late 2026.

The EES system will replace traditional passport stamping for non-EU travelers entering Europe for short stays.

Travelers will be required to provide biometric data, including facial images and fingerprints, and have their passport details digitally recorded upon entry and exit.

While this initiative is designed to enhance security and efficiency over time, delays are expected during the initial rollout phase, particularly at major entry points.

You may experience longer processing times at international airports, train stations, and high-traffic border crossings.

This is especially important if your itinerary includes tight connections.

To help ensure a seamless journey, we recommend:

  • Allowing additional time for border control procedures.
  • Avoiding short layovers (less than one hour is not advised).
  • Planning longer connection times, particularly for multi-leg itineraries.
  • Staying informed about updates related to your arrival destination.

For more information and a comprehensive overview of the ESS, visit the official website of the European Commission and the EU Travel Information Portal. Thoughtful planning will help minimize disruptions and ensure a smooth and enjoyable travel experience.

ETIAS (European Travel Information and Authorization System): Will start operations in the last quarter of 2026 (no exact date set at this time). Once the program is operational, most European countries (30) will require an ETIAS. You can apply online or contact your visa partner. The cost for the authorization is $8 and is valid for three (3) years.
