Wanda’s Croatia

A message from our Founder & President

Not everything that is listed on the internet as a ‘Villa’ is a true Villa. It requires a bit of discernment, and asking the right questions to have a true vision of the property in order for your expectations to match with reality.

The reason for this is partially due to language, and culture, as well as historical reference. Hotels in this region may have “Villa” in the name, as way to acknowledge their historical origins. Homes originally built for a single family as one freestanding structure may have been divided into units, which are available for rent separately, yet the original name of the Villa will remain. Multiple dwelling buildings, such as apartments and condos may be called “Villa”.

Our “Villas” collection here offers properties that have been curated for sophisticated travelers, each property meeting our requirements, and representing the best of the best of Luxury Villas in Croatia!

Dobrodošli!

– Wanda S. Radetti

What location is best for renting a villa in Croatia?

Of the many things to consider when renting a holiday home in Croatia, is where you will be located: both the location of the private villas as well as the surrounding area. Whether you have one week or six for your holiday, experiencing the surrounding area is a wonderful way to leave with a sense of the region and Croatian culture. Croatia’s fascinating history, rich culinary scene and of course its stunning natural beauty mean that you will have a wealth of selections when determining the perfect location for your holiday home.

Just some of the options to consider for your luxury villa rental location;

  • Do you prefer to be in town? Near town? Remote?
  • Will you be more comfortable with a chef cooking for you at your villa or dining out in the evenings?
  • What are the cities you most wish to explore, and how easy is it to get there from your villa?
  • What is the ideal distance from the sea?
    • Beachfront?
    • Sweeping views over the sea from the hillside?
    • Set among vineyards and orchards?
  • Maybe you prefer an active holiday inland, ready to explore the pristine rivers and mountains – is being near a national park right for you?
  • Enjoy a nightly gelato? Shall we arrange for groceries to be delivered or do you prefer to walk into town under the stars?
  • If you plan to have a car, what are the road conditions nearby?

Dubrovnik

The Pearl of the Adriatic is undoubtedly the most recognized and sought-after location in Croatia. With its unmistakable walled city jutting into the sea below rugged mountains that seem to fall directly into crystal blue waters at the shoreline, Dubrovnik and its surroundings are rich with magic, mystery and stunning sophistication. This historical city is a cultural treasure preserved by the loving care of its residents and preservationists, and supported by its UNESCO heritage designation. This area is pedestrian only. Entry into and out of the city is available via three draw bridges and can require climbing many stairs. Our carefully selected guides and partners are a great resource for our travelers to assure the proper itinerary and experience is achieved (without stairs if you prefer). Some of our favorite villas in Dubrovnik enjoy a location walk-able to our preferred entry gate together with a private terrace. From this point of view, guests are able to experience Dubrovnik from the perspective of an onlooker, observing the fishermen in the marina, and the coming and going of visitors by sea. Your terrace will provide incredible views of the walled city and the captivating glow of Adriatic sunsets, all from the comfort of your private home away from home.

Wanda’s Tip“If private beach access is important to you, know that in central Dubrovnik beach access is not always easy to achieve, be sure to let us know if this is a critical factor for your experience. The earlier we start planning the more options we are likely to have available.”

The Island of Hvar

The Island of Hvar is by no means a singular experience, Croatia’s most popular island for travelers offers a great variety of experiences for visitors and locals alike. Hvar Island balances a comfortable proximity to Split’s international airport, Split’s Old town harbor and the neighboring archipelago of islands. With the desires and schedules of our travelers in mind, we will present options for making your transit not only seamless, but a wonderful experience. A holiday resort destination since the 1860’s and consistently named one of the most beautiful places in the world, the Island of Hvar is a favorite destination of celebrities, with hidden treasures waiting to be revealed.

From the island of Hvar, you have the opportunity to explore many of Croatia’s most interesting small islands (some uninhabited) as well as endless possibilities for boating, sailing and enjoying the warm and shimmering waters of the Adriatic. Hvar Town, a darling of the yachting community – with a bustling nightlife, fine dining and trendy shopping – is the place to be seen! But tucked away beyond the glow of the revelry you can uncover Hvar’s fields of lavender, small production craft wineries and traditional villages – Hike its sheer hillsides and bike through the serene countryside – bask in the sunshine on a secluded beach and swim in an undiscovered cove – Uncover the past with stories of Hvar’s architecture, discover its deeply rooted art culture and learn its rich history. We love Hvar for our most illustrious travelers as well as for families seeking a tranquil experience – Matching our clients to the right property will determine their experience in this land of eternal summer.

Wanda’s Tip – “While in Hvar spend a day on the island of Vis – although Vis has received much attention recently, there are still many undiscovered coves and hidden bays for your exploration. For history lovers, we like to arrange visits to sights on Vis as part of a sea & land day of exploration.”

Split

In the bay of Aspalathos, protected by high rugged mountains to the east, and an archipelago of islands to the west, lies the splendid city of Split, what is now a UNESCO designated cultural treasure and the greatest complex of monuments dating from antiquity in Croatia. Split originated over 17 centuries ago as the place Roman Emperor Diocletian built his home and intended to spend his life. Many of Split’s historical and cultural buildings can be found within the walls of Diocletian’s Palace. In addition to numerous museums, the National Theatre, timeworn churches and archeological sites, Split provides important historical and cultural context of the region. Yet, there is much more to Split than its past. A few nearby beaches for swimming and relaxation are enjoyed by locals and visitors alike. One such spot is Bacvice Beach, where you can enjoy one of the only sandy beaches in Split and the beautiful turquoise waters of the Adriatic Sea. Being an active port city, Split is a great point to launch your day on the alluring waters of the Adriatic, perhaps visiting one of the many easily accessible nearby islands, such as Čiovo island, Brac, Hvar, and Vis. If you prefer, explore the mainland by venturing to Trogir, Šibenik or the Krka National Park. Convenience for travelers (the city center is roughly 24 km from the international airport) and ease of accessibility for exploration, blend with the abundant cultural offerings to make this vibrant and enchanting city an excellent destination for your Croatia home rental.

Wanda’s Tip – “The decision to have a rental car while you are in Split must be determined with the exact location of your villa, as the magnificent Diocletian’s Palace is a pedestrian only area, hence you will not need or want to have a car. The historical center is the heart of Split and a great place to spend your leisure time – if you are not right in the Palace, to be within walking distance may be a great option”

Trogir

Nestled on a small island between the mainland and the island of Ciovo, sits Trogir, a city with 2,300 years of urban tradition. Its culture was created under the influence of the ancient Greeks, then the Romans, and Venetians. Alluring as a reliquary for architectural and historical treasures, the harbour town of Trogir remains undiscovered in comparison to her museum town contemporaries of Split and Dubrovnik. Connected to the mainland by a small stone bridge, and Ciovo by a drawbridge, the center of Trogir is its medieval core, the best-preserved Romanesque-Gothic complex in all of central Europe, surrounded by walls which shield a castle and tower, Romanesque churches, and dwellings built by masters across many centuries. The church of St. Lawrence, with its portal by Radovan, is recognized as the most significant work of the Romanesque-Gothic style in Croatia. UNESCO listed Trogir as a World Culture Heritage site in 1997. “The orthogonal street plan of this island settlement dates back to the Hellenistic period and it was embellished by successive rulers with many fine public and domestic buildings and fortifications. Its beautiful Romanesque churches are complemented by the outstanding Renaissance and Baroque buildings from the Venetian period,” says the UNESCO report.

Wanda’s Tip – “After wandering the ancient alley walls, and cobbled paths, the pedestrian only central square invites a moment to pause in the warm Adriatic light and savor the cultural abundance of this majestic little island.”

The Region of Istria

This heart shaped peninsula on Croatia’s northern most coast offers the quintessential seaside fishing lifestyle and atmosphere you would expect from the Adriatic – but hidden just inland, among its verdant hills and fertile valleys are some of the finest gastronomical delights to be discovered in Croatia. Follow winding roads to world renowned olive oils and robust truffles, dine on regional prosciutto and peka. Savor the exceptional wines found here in the distinguished 45th parallel wine growing region. Cyclists will adore the more than 100 trails in the area – wind your way up and down the hills into the many picturesque medieval towns, stop to catch your breath while lingering over stirring panoramas. Rich in heritage, narrow stone streets and architectural sites dating from antiquity, Istria is the enchantress of the Adriatic, capturing the heart and imagination of all who venture into her heart.

Wanda’s Tip – “Those visiting Croatia for the very first time will often focus on the southern coastal area, however Istria has so much to offer in natural beauty, culinary riches, and history – and our active travelers love the ability to explore by bike, car or on foot.

The Island of Brac

One of the largest islands of Croatia, the coastline of Brac diverges from pebbled, gently sloping beaches to dramatic, rocky ledges. Its most famous beach, Zlanti rat, near Bol, is shaped by winds and sea currents, causing the shape to fluctuate day by day. This also makes the spot a favorite of windsurfers. The white limestone found on Brac has been used across the world for centuries. Stonework is an artform here, the traditional of stone cutting is very much alive today, performed by modern artists, jewelers and sculptors. Olive orchards on Brac are plentiful, and fantastic. Here you will find traditional fishing, farming and olive oil production – Brac has an aura of living like a local.

Wanda’s Tip – “Brac is near to the mainland, with car ferry available between Brac & Split and Brac & Makarska, if you want to be on an island yet prefer to self-drive, don’t overlook Brac for its popular neighbor Hvar.”

Orebic

Orebic is located in the northern section of the Pelješac peninsula, sitting along the southern facing coastline. It is a short water taxi away from the town of Korcula, on the island of Korcula. Many small islands rest in between Orebic and Korcula town. It is also in close proximity to the Island of Mljet, which holds a large national park. From Orebic you can enjoy many outdoor activities, including hiking, water sports, and cycling. You are also very near many fabulous wineries and traditional restaurants.

Wanda’s Tip – “Enjoy a trip to the town of Ston for some of the finest oysters of the Mediterranean and walk the longest fortification wall in Europe!”
