Hvar town, and its majestic beauty reign supreme as island royalty in Dalmatia. Both Conde Nast Traveler, and Travel + Leisure have listed Hvar as 1 of the 10 most beautiful islands in the world. The Austria-Hungarian empire promoted Hvar town as a health resort in 1868. It is a favorite of Croatian artists and celebrities. The harbor is the most glamourous of the Adriatic, attracting luxury yachts and international celebrities throughout the summer.

One could debate if its chic ambiance is what has attracted vacationers all these decades, or if the presence of a trendsetting crowd frequenting the cafes, winding the stone streets and browsing the upscale shops has instituted its sophistication. It is no debate however, that Hvar is a sight to behold and a place to be seen.

The trend toward upscale was established in the time of the Republic of Venice, when 15th century Hvar prospered as an important trading port for fleets on their way to and from the Far East. Limestone buildings, ornamented gothic palaces, cobbled streets surrounded by 13th century walls serve as reminder of Hvar’s history. While the traffic free center, and absence of high-rise construction serve to preserve the medieval tranquility for the present day.
