The Greatest Journey Is the People We Meet Along the Way

Almost a decade of Shared Vision, Trust and Inspiration

When people ask me what has brought me the greatest joy after more than three decades devoted to creating extraordinary journeys, my answer has always been the same. It is not the remarkable destinations I have visited, the unforgettable experiences I have helped create, or even the countless travelers whose lives have been enriched through discovering the world. The greatest privilege has been watching people grow—seeing talent flourish, confidence develop, and potential transform into quiet excellence. To me, that has always been the true measure of a life’s work.

In February of 2018, Tia Lovisa Moreira joined Tasteful Croatian Journeys. From our very first conversation, I recognized an exceptional young professional whose curiosity about the world was matched only by her kindness and genuine passion for travel. I believed I was welcoming a gifted travel designer into our team. Looking back today, I realize I was welcoming someone who would become a trusted colleague, a cherished friend, and one of the most important influences on my own journey as a leader.

One of life’s greatest gifts is discovering people whose strengths complement our own, and Tia and I could hardly be more different. I have always been someone who wakes every morning with a mind alive with ideas, possibilities, and new visions. After many years of building businesses and creating journeys, I have learned to trust my instincts. They have guided me through bold decisions, unexpected opportunities, and adventures that others might have considered impossible. I have always believed that if you can imagine something clearly enough—and believe in it deeply enough—you can find a way to make it happen.

Tia brings a different but equally invaluable perspective.

She approaches the world from another direction, and it is precisely that difference which has made our partnership so rewarding. She is thoughtful where I am instinctive, measured where I am visionary, quietly analytical where I naturally see possibilities. Having traveled extensively through many countries, she possesses a deep appreciation for cultures, people, and the subtle details that transform a good journey into an extraordinary one. She listens carefully before speaking, prepares meticulously before acting, and approaches every traveler with genuine warmth and empathy. Her calm confidence has never diminished my enthusiasm; it has given it strength and direction.

Over the years, there have been many moments when I have enthusiastically presented a new idea, convinced I could already see the destination ahead. Tia would listen with complete attention before gently offering another perspective. Sometimes she would say, “Perhaps we should explore one more possibility.” At other times it was simply, “Let’s think about this from another perspective.” There was never criticism in her words, only wisdom. She never questioned my vision. She refined it. She has an extraordinary ability to recognize the heart of an idea while ensuring it is supported by careful thought, sound judgment, and meticulous planning.

It took me some time to appreciate how significant that balance had become, but today I understand it completely. My instinct has often shown us the destination; Tia’s wisdom has helped us find the very best path to reach it. That simple truth captures the essence of our relationship and reminds me that leadership is rarely about having all the answers. More often, it is about surrounding yourself with people whose strengths enrich your own, whose perspectives challenge you to think more deeply, and whose integrity earns your complete trust.

She possesses a rare ability to combine knowledge with compassion, professionalism with patience, and excellence with genuine care for every person she serves. Technical expertise can be learned. Destinations can be researched. Processes can be refined. But kindness, integrity, generosity, and authenticity come from within, and those qualities define her in everything she does. Whether working with travelers, colleagues, or partners around the world, she consistently brings thoughtfulness, grace, and quiet confidence to every relationship she builds.

Perhaps that is why I have always believed that travel has never been simply about the places we visit. Beautiful destinations will always inspire us, but places alone do not change lives. People do. The traveler who returns home seeing the world differently. The local host who welcomes visitors with generosity and pride. The guide who shares stories that bring history to life. The travel designer who works behind the scenes, ensuring that every detail allows unforgettable memories to unfold naturally. At its heart, travel has always been about human connection, and no one embodies that philosophy more completely than Tia.

This year, when Tia was once again recognized as one of the Travel + Leisure A-List Advisors, I felt an overwhelming sense of pride. Not because awards alone define success, but because this recognition simply affirmed what those of us who have had the privilege of working alongside her have known for years.
Excellence eventually finds its audience. Dedication never goes unnoticed. Authenticity is always recognized.
Her success is richly deserved because it has been earned through years of unwavering commitment, continuous learning, and a genuine dedication to serving others with care, integrity, and excellence.

One recent milestone brought me particular joy. Recognizing Tia’s knowledge of Croatia and her thoughtful approach to travel, Travel + Leisure invited her to write about one of the country’s most authentic treasures—its rich wine culture and the remarkable regions that are quietly redefining European wine tourism. The result was her beautifully crafted feature, This Is Europe’s Most Underrated Wine Region—Here’s Where to Sip, Stay, and Explore, According to a Travel Expert, published on 1 July 2026.

Reading her article was a profoundly gratifying experience. It wasn’t simply because one of the world’s most respected travel publications had sought her expertise, but because every word reflected the qualities I have admired for nearly a decade: intellectual curiosity, genuine respect for local cultures, meticulous research, and a remarkable ability to tell stories that inspire people to travel more thoughtfully.

Seeing her work published in Travel + Leisure simply confirmed something I had known all along: when talent is matched by humility, discipline, and genuine passion, recognition becomes not a matter of chance, but of time.

Tia’s achievements are not the result of a single article or a single accolade. They are the culmination of years of unwavering dedication, continuous learning, and an enduring commitment to creating meaningful travel experiences that enrich the lives of others.

People often think that mentoring is a one-way relationship, with experience flowing from one person to another. My experience with Tia has taught me something far more meaningful. While I may have shared my knowledge of the travel industry, she quietly became one of my own teachers. She reminded me that patience is not hesitation, that listening is one of the greatest expressions of leadership, and that our strongest ideas often become even stronger when shaped by thoughtful collaboration. After more than three decades in this extraordinary profession, I still find myself learning, and that is one of the greatest gifts she has given me.

Today, I watch Tia sharing those same qualities with others. She encourages, supports, and inspires with the same generosity that has shaped our own partnership. That is how a true legacy is built—not just through titles, awards, or recognition, but through the lives we influence and the opportunities we create for others to flourish. Long after individual journeys have ended, that legacy continues through the people we have encouraged, believed in, and inspired.

Tia, thank you for believing in our shared vision and for making it stronger with your wisdom, your integrity, and your unwavering commitment to excellence. Thank you for reminding me that leadership is as much about listening as it is about leading, and that the finest partnerships are built on trust, mutual respect, and the willingness to keep learning from one another. Most of all, thank you for becoming such an important part of my life and of the Tasteful Croatian Journeys family. I could not be prouder of everything you have achieved, and I do not doubt that your most remarkable journeys are still ahead.

As I reflect on more than three decades devoted to creating extraordinary journeys, I realize that the places themselves have never been the greatest reward. The greatest reward has always been the people I have met along the way—the colleagues who become lifelong friends, the travelers whose lives become intertwined with our own, and remarkable individuals like Tia, who remind us every day why this profession is such a privilege.

Because in the end, the greatest journeys are not measured by the places we discover, but by the people who change us along the way.
